  • What Are Your Strengths?

When it comes to discussing your strengths, don’t be modest: this is your time to shine! Instead of dwelling on the things you don’t necessarily like about yourself, focus on what makes you an asset. Be prepared to share your strengths but ensure they align with the attributes required by the company.  Look at the detail of the advert/ job description as your guide.

  • What Are Your Weaknesses?

This is a tricky question, as it’s hard to admit faults in a job interview. But if you are asked this question, don’t worry! The best strategy is to focus on areas that are not essential for the position you are applying for. Or alternatively, you could share a weakness but turn it into a positive.  For example, I have difficulty saying no when asked to help other people, however I am capable of managing my time and only say yes when I have the time.

  • What Is Your Greatest Achievement?

Don’t be modest here, either – this is the time to brag! Talk about any successes you have had in past roles and how you managed to rise above difficult challenges. This question gives you the perfect opportunity to showcase your problem-solving skills and how you can bring them to the new role.

  • Always give examples?

When answering a question try to demonstrate your experience by providing an example.  For instance, if you are asked to describe your ability to handle a complaint and calm a customer down.  You would answer, I have excellent complaint handling skills and well versed in calming customers down, as I have dealt with many irate customers previously.  Don’t stop there, continue with an explanation of a time you actually did calm some down and the outcome.

  • Why Should We Hire You?

This is arguably one of the most important questions in an interview, and it’s also one of the most difficult to answer. When answering this question, focus on your experience, qualifications and skills that are relevant to the role. Don’t forget to emphasise your enthusiasm for the role and how you can contribute to the team.
