SEEK Legal Job Ad’s March 2026: Sector Breakdown Report

Legal job market template

MARCH 2026

This report marks the introduction of our Legal Job Ads Report, designed to provide a clear view of what’s currently happening across the Legal sector.

As this is our first release, the focus is on establishing a baseline across the areas we specialise in — legal support services (including Legal Secretaries, Law Clerks and Paralegals), alongside Practice Managers, and complemented by our specialist partner network covering Lawyer appointments.

As a business, we work across legal support services in addition to sales and management recruitment more broadly, and this report forms part of our ongoing commitment to providing market insight across the sectors we operate in.

We look forward to tracking movements in the data and sharing monthly comparisons and trend analysis with you.

Summary – Legal Support vs Lawyer Roles

Within the legal sector we saw a total of 2430 jobs nationally, made up of the following categories:

  • Total Support Roles (Our Specialties): 715
  • Total Lawyer Roles (Partner Specialties): 1,715

As expected, lawyers make up the majority of the demand.

Legal Support & Practice Operations – Core Areas of Demand

Breakdown by Role

  • Legal Secretaries: 447
  • Law Clerks & Paralegals: 247
  • Practice Managers: 21

Market Insight

  • Legal Secretaries continue to dominate demand, highlighting their critical role in keeping legal teams operating efficiently.
  • Practice Manager roles are lower in volume, with many SME firms either retaining long-term incumbents or absorbing the function across Partners and senior administrative staff.

Lawyer Roles – Demand by Specialisation

What the data has shown is –

  • Corporate & Commercial: 256
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution: 228
  • Family Law: 218
  • Generalist In-House: 206
  • In Law Firms (Generalist): 189
  • Property Law: 186
  • Personal Injury: 116
  • Other Lawyers 316
(Other Lawyers Breakdown: Tax Law – 11, Intellectual Property Law – 12, Insurance and Superannuation Law – 47, Industrial Relations & Employment Law – 73, Environment & Planning Law – 11, Criminal & Civil – 75, Construction Law – 50, Bank & Finance – 37.)

Market Insight

Demand is led by Corporate & Commercial and Litigation & Dispute Resolution, with Family Law and In-House roles sitting closely behind.

Property and Generalist law firm roles fall into the mid-range, while Personal Injury remains significantly lower in volume at around half the level of the leading practice areas.

The “Other Lawyers” category is the largest overall, though this is spread across multiple niche disciplines rather than one dominant area.

As we have a benchmark for future reporting we will release updates monthly, and so moving forward will begin to layer in:

  • Month-on-month comparisons
  • Shifts in role demand
  • Emerging patterns across both support and lawyer segments

This will allow for more detailed insights into how the legal job market is evolving over time.
